WP2 Valorisation of nature restoration knowledge
The Nature Restoration Law is brand-new attempt to fight against climate change and biodiversity crisis, and an array of new type of competences is needed for implementing it. In this work package, we analyze competences needed for implementing national NRL plans and strengthen transnational knowledge around NRL implementation in national and regional contexts.
To develop higher education to educate future land use and landscape specialists with more interdisciplinary and deeper competences, the first step is to increase awareness and know-how about the role of nature restoration in the fight against climate change among higher education actors.
Progress so far
During the first project year, FutureLand partners have worked together to identify the key competences needed for implementing the EU Nature Restoration Law and to strengthen knowledge exchange between researchers, educators, policymakers and practitioners across Europe.
The work package has resulted in:
- an interdisciplinary competence framework consisting of eight competence domains and more than sixty competence statements;
- a multilingual expert survey designed to assess competence needs related to nature restoration;
- a series of five international webinars
- a Reflection Workshop that supported the development of the FutureLand micro-credential and MOOC.
The webinar series
The FutureLand webinar series was organised between January and May 2026 and consisted of five international webinars focusing on different aspects of nature restoration and the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Law.
The webinar series attracted 374 individual participants and generated 581 webinar attendances. In total, 28 presentations were delivered by experts representing universities, public authorities, NGOs and other organisations across Europe. The webinar series featured 25 external experts and 3 project partner presentations covering policy, governance, ecosystem restoration, landscape planning and educational perspectives related to nature restoration.

A micro-credential
The lifelong learning is key to ensure that everyone has knowledge, skills and competences they need to thrive in their personal and professional lives. We will produce a micro-credential which is offering a flexible and targeted way to help people to strengthen transnational knowledge of the NRL and its role in fight against climate change, biodiversity crisis and exceeding planetary boundaries.
